National Children Awareness Mental Health Day
The Hawaii State of Education(HIDOE) encourages all staff and students to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and build a broad recognition around the role of mental health to overall health. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced the National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day for 2019 will be on Thursday, May 9. States, tribes, territories, and communities across the nation are encouraged to host events and activities around children’s mental health throughout the month of May.
HIDOE partnered with the Department of Health(DOH) and other community-based organizations to launch a series of statewide events to show our solidarity during the National Children Mental Health Awareness Month. On Thursday, May 9, 2019 (National Children Mental Health Awareness Day, i.e. Green Day) everyone is encouraged to wear green to show our support of raising awareness about the importance of children’s mental health and show that positive mental health is essential to a child’s healthy development.
