Water Quality Letter
March 6, 2020
Dear Kea‘au Middle parents and guardians,
This letter is to inform you about a water quality issue that has impacted our campus operations. Preliminary tests have revealed slightly elevated levels of sediment coming from water sources on select areas of campus.
While the issue is still being investigated, our administration has deactivated all campus water fountains out of an abundance of caution. School restrooms are still functional as preliminary tests raised no concerns about handwashing. The cafeteria will use potable water sources for cooking until the issue is resolved.
The Hawaii State Department of Education’s Office of Facilities and Operations is currently working with representatives from the Department of Accounting and General Services to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. No changes to class schedules are currently expected, and we will keep you regularly updated.
We are recommending that your child bring bottled water with them to class starting on Monday, March 9 until further notice. Bottled water will be available for students and faculty as well.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our administration office at (808) 982-4200
Sincerely,
Elna Gomes
Principal
