Principal's Message
July 12, 2021
Aloha Kea'au Middle School Community:
Welcome to school year 2021-2022! I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to everyone at Kea'au Middle School. I was born and raised in Hilo, graduated from Waiakea High School, University of Hawaii at Hilo, and Lamar University. I was a teacher at Keonepoko Elementary School and Waiakea Intermediate School, served as vice principal of Waiakea Intermediate School, and most recently served as principal of Chiefess
Kapi'olani Elementary school for the past five years.
I am honored to be at Kea'au Middle School and excited for the upcoming school year and being back working with middle school students. Along with the rest of Hawaii's public schools, we are scheduled to open fully for daily, in-person learning this school year.
• August 4, 2021 will be the first day for 6th graders only
• August 5, 2021 all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders
While some of our COVID procedures have changed due to changes to new guidance, I assure everyone that safety remains the top priority for everyone at Kea'au Middle School. We will follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Hawaii Department of Health (HIDOH), and Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) to ensure we do our part in keeping everyone on campus as safe as possible.
The Kea'au Middle School community will miss Principal Gomes and her leadership, and I thank her for all her years of dedicated service for the children of Hawai'i. Please join me in wishing her all the best as she transitions to a new chapter in her life story.
I am excited to be at Kea'au Middle School and look forward to meeting everyone and working together to have the best year yet! Please do not hesitate to contact me by email at
[email protected] or by phone at (808) 313-4800.
Sincerely,
Gregg Yonemori
Principal
